Assist professional nursing staff by performing routine duties in handling and serving patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Pender Community Hospital.
- Works under the direction of the RN and/or LPN but is held accountable to prioritize and carry out assigned duties and routine cares.
- Knows the patient’s plan of care by attending report and verbal communications with members of the team.
- Obtains vital signs, intake and output, and weights, and records with accuracy. Assist with meal trays, nourishments and feeding.
- Provides safe transportation of patients by wheelchair, cart or ambulation.
- Collects sputum, urine and stool specimens. Is able to instruct the patient on proper technique.
- Restocks linen as necessary, prepares room for new admissions.
- Reports any observations and/or symptoms indicative of change in patient status, adverse reaction to treatments to the patients’ nurse in a prompt manner.
- Reports care for assigned patients.
- Utilizes and updates patient communication board in room as indicated.
- Performs hourly patient rounding.
- Maintains knowledge of location for needed equipment and supplies.
- Restocks supplies as needed.
- Reports equipment needing repairs.
- Cleans and stores equipment when no longer needed.
- Assists in maintaining organization in storage areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: Minimum 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, rotating weekends and holidays; 6:00am-2:30pm
Experience and Skills
Education and/or Experience
- Must be sixteen (16) years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent, if applicable
- Previous experience preferred
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certified Nursing Certification preferred

- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships with staff and health care providers
- Ability to work with skill in identifying problems
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
