Patient Care Assistant and Unit Clerk Med Surg Unit
REPORTS TO
Department Coordinator or Clinical Nurse Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs a variety of general and specialized clerical support tasks related to departmental functions. The Unit Clerk provides assistance to staff to ensure patient information is collected and available in a timely manner. Greets customers and answers the telephone professionally. Provides direct or indirect patient care. Computer schedules and information programs are maintained and updated in a timely manner, as appropriate.
The Nursing Assistant provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Assists patients with activities of daily living when working in the Patient Care Unit. Assists the RN in providing care to patients in the Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab department.
All aspects of the Nursing Assistant’s performance support service excellence and a healing environment. The Nursing Assistant identifies and communicates needed unit resources or equipment to be included in budgets. Due to changing organizational needs, work hours may vary. A 30-day notice is required when an employee resigns.
EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Participates in care to patients throughout the lifespan.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
License/Certifications:
Conditional: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate for healthcare workers within 3 months of hire.
Maintains appropriate certifications
