Night shifts, 2 – 12 hour night shifts per week, shift is 7pm-7am
Position Summary:
The CNA/ER Tech works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) License Practical Nurse (LPN) and indirect supervision of the Nursing Director. The Nurse Assistant provides direct patient care and nursing services as directed by the Registered Nurse and License Practical Nurse.
Job Duties:
– Provides assistance in the delivery of patient care by:
- Collection of subjective and objective information as directed.
- Implementing planned interventions.
- Prioritizing delegated cares for assigned patients.
- Assisting the RN with education of patient/significant other and with the discharge process.
– Works alongside emergency room doctors and nurses as first line caregiving team.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs.
- Bathe, shave, or drape patients to prepare them for treatment or examination.
- Observe patients’ conditions, vital signs, and report changes to professional staff.
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Assist emergency room staff in caring for injured or ill patients.
– Contributes to a culture of safety for all patients, visitors, and staff by:
- Ensuring accurate patient identification.
- Monitoring physical environment for hazards.
- Identifying patients at risk for adverse events.
- Practicing effective infection control measures including hand hygiene.
- Communicating patient information accurately among caregivers.
– Utilizes communication skills effectively when interacting with patients, families, staff, nursing directors, and physicians.
- Relays pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health care providers.
- Interacts professionally with all constituencies.
- Positive representative of nursing and CCH in hospital and community settings.
– Practice is based on CCH policies and procedures.
– Assists with orientation and education of staff and students.
- Participates in orientation of new staff.
- Shares knowledge with other staff and students as appropriate.
– Participates in TQI studies.
- Contributes to quality of patient care through TQI studies, chart audits, and cost/benefit analysis.
– Attends and participates in approved/requested committees and meetings.
– Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through in-services, workshops, and/or seminars.
– Demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to variable work-load and job duties.
Education:
CNA or EMT certification preferred or currently enrolled in a Nursing Program, preferred.
Experience:
1-2 years nurse assistant/CNA or EMT experience preferred.
Certifications:
Current CPR Certification.
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written communication skills in multiple relationships with variety of cultural and social backgrounds. Ability to recognize, anticipate, and respond to the needs of all customers in a caring, respectful, and courteous manner that leads to satisfactory resolution for the customer.
Must be able to read and write English/ basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Must be able to use a variety of communication devices including telephone, computer, fax, copier, paging system, written and verbal skills to effectively disseminate information. Ability to monitor patient care requires visual skills.
