Job Description

Overview – Provides daily oversight for faculty within a selected program. Participate in annual, and on-going evaluation of faculty goals and performance. Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to ensure adequate and appropriate resources for classroom and clinical instruction of students within a selected program. Assures that qualified faculty are assigned to appropriate and relevant teaching assignments with an equitable work distribution and ensures standardization of curriculum and high-quality instruction.

Appointment and Term of Service

Faculty Chairs are appointed for three-year terms with an option for renewal.

I. Qualifications

Required

A.Education

a.Nursing: Earned doctorate in nursing or related field

b.Paramedicine Earned doctorate preferred.

B.Licensure

a.Nursing: Current unencumbered RN licensure with eligibility to practice

b.Paramedicine: Nationally registered paramedic. Current unencumbered license to practice in Nebraska.

C.Demonstrated expertise in nursing or paramedicine and higher education.

D.Evidence of a leadership role in academia

E.Evidence of critical thinking and problem-solving skills

F.Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills

G.Commitment to the Mission of Creighton University and the College of Nursing

Recommended

A.Nursing: At least two years of experience coordinating courses in a nursing program

B.Paramedicine: At least two years coordinating courses in a Paramedicine program

II. Reporting Relationship

The Faculty Chairs report directly to the respective Associate Dean for each campus.

III. Responsibilities

A. Administration

1.Provides oversight to faculty within their track.

2.laborates with the respective Associate Dean for each campus on managing performance issues for all faculty

3.Assumes accountability for planning, recruiting, and evaluating special faculty

4.Participates in recruiting and interviewing prospective faculty members.

5.Collaborates with the respective Associate Dean for each campus to assure that faculty, preceptors, and others engaged in teaching-learning activities are academically and experientially prepared for the specialty tracks in which they teach and meet certification and practice requirements as specified by regulatory and specialty bodies.

6.Maintains responsibility for all faculty workload calculation, tracking and reporting of all faculty teaching assignments, and salary calculation for special faculty and other reporting as assigned.

7.Partners with the Assistant Dean for Faculty Development to orient faculty to the expectations of the role and other curriculum pathways, receive on-going development and mentoring and ensures faculty are prepared to fulfill their teaching, service and scholarship roles.

8.Coordinates the overall course and clinical schedules, faculty assignments, and placements for effective use of resources.

9.Participates as appropriate in new student orientations.

10.Participates in securing, sustaining, and evaluating clinical sites for student learning experiences consistent with curriculum, state board regulations, and accreditation guidelines.

11.Coordinates with faculty to manage absences to enable the program to fulfill its mission, goals and expected outcomes.

12.Submits data and helps prepare College of Nursing reports at the request of the Senior Associate Dean and Associate Deans.

B. Teaching

1.Provides classroom, lab and clinical learning experiences as assigned for students consistent with College of Nursing needs and standards for rank and tenure.

C. Scholarship

1.Maintains program of research and/or scholarly activity consistent with College of Nursing’s standards for rank and tenure.

D. Service

1.Engages in service activities consistent with the College of Nursing’s standards for rank and tenure.

2.Engages in additional responsibilities and committee service as requested by the Dean

IV. Evaluation

The Faculty Chair will be evaluated in two roles: (a) faculty role and (b) faculty chair role. Refer to faculty guidelines in the CON’s Faculty Evaluation policy. The Faculty Chair’s evaluation will take place annually based on the above job description.
